Goa Solar Policy and it's Solar Highlights

Goa is the smallest state in India and is located on the western coast of the country. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country with cities like Panaji, Vasco and Margao being preferred destinations. In terms of installed solar capacity, Goa is one of the poorest performing states in the country with an installed capacity of just .05MW, which was commissioned in the FY 2016/2017. As of the year 2016, Goa did not have a single power generation plant of its own. The Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission for Goa and Union Territories have set a target of 150MW of solar by 2022 for Goa. At the current pace, its looks to be quite a steep target to achieve. A major reason for the slow deployment has been cited to be the unavailability of flat lands that are required to setup large scale solar plants. The State Electricity Department has been talks with the Water Resources Department to install Solar Panels on canals. With several concession based schemes as well as net metering policies in place, it is expected that rooftop solar will play a major role if Goa has to meet its set objective.
